Jeff Schanz

Jeffrey M. Schanz, Ph.D. is a leader in higher education with nearly twenty-five years of experience in university and college advancement. He served in advancement at both Marist College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Jeff is currently the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Albany Law School, the nation’s oldest independent law school.

Jeff Schanz has served in leadership positions for two $1B+ capital campaigns, one accomplishing $1.4 billion. In 2015, Rensselaer garnered top honors for fundraising as judged by The Council for the Support of Education (CASE) and The Council for Aid to Education (CAE).

In 2018, Albany Law School posted its best fundraising year on record and, in 2019, the law school received a transformative gift of $15M from an anonymous donor to support the clinics at the Justice Center at Albany Law School. Jeff serves on the President and Dean’s leadership team working closely with trustees, volunteers, and alumni donors in establishing philanthropic and engagement activities for development and alumni programs while helping Albany Law School meet its fundraising goals.

Dr. Schanz is involved in a number of volunteer organizations including past Presiding Officer of the Association of Private College and University Alumni Directors (PCUAD), Past President of the Marist College Alumni Association and representative to the Marist Board of Trustees, and has served on the faculty for a number of professional conferences, writes on advancement issues, and travels nationally and internationally speaking on issues facing universities and colleges relative to fundraising and revenue. In 2012, he was named CASE District II Professional of the Year. He is a member of the Approach and Beyond Committee, a Troy, NY based non-profit.
