Tips on How to Retain Annual Giving Talent While Being Resource Constrained

Adrienne Brown is currently the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving & Engagement Strategies at New York University. In this role, she oversees a team of colleagues who implement the philanthropic engagement strategy for alumni, parents, students, and friends, ultimately securing over $30 million in unrestricted funding for the University. Adrienne joined the development office at New York University 11 years ago, after holding progressively responsible roles in marketing and advertising, supporting companies such as American Express, General Motors, and United HealthCare. In her 11 years, she has been responsible for launching NYU One Day – NYU’s 24-hour day of giving, Rising Violets – NYU’s crowdfunding platform, and the 1831 Fund – NYU’s senior class gift program. Adrienne is a member and participant in CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education), Women in Development and African American Development Officers. In partnership with the NYU Office of Global Inclusion, she helps oversees participation level fundraising for inclusivity, diversity, belonging, equity, and access. Adrienne also serves as an NYU Global Inclusion Officer and helps lead the Belonging and Inclusivity Committee in her department. In her spare time, Adrienne enjoys volunteering with the Chocolate Milk Café – a nonprofit specializing in supporting new mothers from the African diaspora. Most of all, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family and is a proud alum of NYU, receiving her Master’s in Higher Education Administration in 2016. She’s also a proud MSU Spartan, originally hailing from East Lansing, Michigan – Go Green!
